Welcome to West London Free School Sixth Form
This is possibly the start of the two most incredibly exciting and defining years of your life… You will finally be studying the subjects that you are really interested in, taught by expertly qualified teachers who have a strong passion for their subjects, and the enthusiasm to lead you on a successful journey to university first, and hopefully life…
Over the next few pages, I will try my best to convey what life is like in our Sixth Form. There is a detailed prospectus you can download (but nothing will give you a better feel than coming and visiting us during any one of our small group open mornings, where you will hopefully be able to experience yourself how inspirational, supportive and inclusive our school community is. A place where our biggest ambition is to help every single one of you achieve the best they are capable of, by leading them on a path to a great university or straight away to a professional career.
All of our A level courses are academically challenging, and are all taught by subject specialists who themselves have been educated in the top UK universities ranging from Oxbridge to most Russell Group universities. We strongly believe that our students should be given the space to do their own extended independent research and work, develop intellectual curiosity to read around the subjects and to attend lectures by leading academics. We believe that by guiding them through these essential study skills, alongside time management and organisation, we will help them achieve the qualities that will enable them to progress to the best universities, careers and professions.
Serious study is combined with extensive opportunities for enrichment. In the Sixth Form, we will offer our students not only the opportunity to excel academically, but also the chance to develop and enhance their leadership skills through a range of activities. Obtaining excellent qualifications is fundamental to Sixth Form life at WLFS, but this is balanced with the aim of developing essential personal qualities through involvement in activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, music and debating, as well as sport, drama, travel and charitable work.
Last but not least, you might be interested to know that although we are part of West London Free School’s main secondary school on King Street, we have our separate and own purposefully built Sixth Form building, a 10 minute walk away, on Bridge Avenue. The Sixth Form’s dedicated teaching staff are here to help our students achieve greater independence and responsibility in their transitional journey from young adolescents to young adults, ready for university life.
I hope I will have the opportunity to meet you soon.
