SEND

At the West London Free School, we know every child matters and each has differing levels of need. Some pupils, however, have very specific needs that need to be addressed by all staff if they are to reach their full potential. These groups include those with emotional, physical and behavioural difficulties. The school aims to provide pupils with a safe and positive environment in which they can learn as effectively as possible.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Department works hard to ensure that pupils with specific needs are able to thrive at the WLFS regardless. As such:

  • All pupils benefit from high quality teaching; we regularly discuss how our teaching strategies can be best used to support pupils with SEND in the classroom.
  • Teachers make consistent use of strategies to promote teacher-pupil dialogue including mini-white boards, providing opportunities for low-stakes feedback from all pupils which is particularly impactful for supporting pupils with SEND.

Our Personal Development Curriculum (PDC) and assembly curriculum include clear and consistent guidance around our core values of Kindness, Hard Work and High Standards which helps to foster a calm, caring and purposeful environment for all pupils.

  • Some classes are supported by teaching assistants, who may support one or a number of pupils in the class.
  • Pupils who would benefit from additional support in a particular area are included in interventions. These are often run before school, during form time, and after school to avoid pupils missing lessons.
  • Pupils have access to a social space at PM break, staffed by a member of the SEND team to ensure a calm environment.
  • The SEN room is where pupils can find members of the SEND team and where some interventions take place.

We ensure that all SEND pupils have full access to the National Curriculum, and the opportunity to succeed in their studies. SEND pupils do extremely well at the WLFS. Of the thirteen SEND pupils (both with an EHC plan and support) who took their GCSEs at WLFS in 2025, they achieved an average Attainment 8 Grade of 6.2.

Many went on to study at the WLFS Sixth Form, with others gaining places on excellent post-16 pathways such as West London College, the Design College East London, and St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College.
